Jau is a disputed region that is claimed by both South Sudan and Sudan. The region is a source of tension between the neighboring countries.
In December 2011, South Sudan has lodged a complaint with the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) saying that Sudan has occupied parts of their country including the Jau region.
In February 2012, the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) fought with Sudan Armed Forces and captured the Jau region completely. They also captured more than 15 Toyota Land Cruiser vehicles and heavy trucks from SAF. Commissioner of Pariang County Mabeak Lang Bilkuei said that taking control of Jau is a step forward toward preventing foreign invasion in the country.
