Northern Bahr el Ghazal is one of the 10 states in South Sudan.

Paul Malong Awan is the Governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal state.

  • February 2014: Secretary General Kuot Kuot was suspended by authorities following his alleged role in the misappropriation of public funds. Director General for Administration and Finance Sabrino Majok Majok is also amongst other officials suspended. The State Minister of Public Service issued a decree on the directive of State Governor Paul Malong Awan on Monday ordering the suspension and arrest of officials suspected of involvement, as well as the formation of an investigatory committee to look into detailed aspects of the scandal. About 9.8 million South Sudanese pounds (SSP) are alleged to have been squandered thought the exact figure is yet to be reached.


October 2012

  • The people of Northern Bahr el Ghazal are not that happy at the Government of South Sudan signing up the agreements of September with Sudan, particularly in regard to oil deals. They held what is called the first peaceful protest against the Government since the nation became independent.

May 2012

February 10

Governor Paul Malong Awan issues gubernatorial order relieving three county commissioners of their posts. Kawac Deng Kawac from Aweil East, Diera Madut Chan from Aweil Central and Isaac Lual Chol from Aweil West were relieved from their duty. Minister of physical infrastructure Peter Kuot Jel and state security advisor Yel Deng Nguel were also removed.
