President Kiir arrives in Addis Ababa to take part in African Union session

South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit arrived in Addis Ababa to part in the African Union’s 19th ordinary session of the Assembly. The session is scheduled for Sunday, 15th, July 2012. The President is accompanied by a number of national ministers.

President Kiir is likely to present a report to the Peace and Security Council (PSC) meeting No. 327 at the level of heads of state and government, which will be held today on Saturday 14th July 2012. His report is in compliance with the position of Republic of South Sudan on the AU Communiqué of April/2012 and the UN Security Council Resolution No. 2046/May, 2012. The PSC meeting will be held at the Plenary Hall of the AU Conference Center (Old Building).

The Peace and Security Council meeting is expected to discuss two agenda items – one on the conflicts in Africa, particularly the conflicts in Mali and the conflicts between the two neighboring states of South Sudan and Sudan.

President Kiir will take the opportunity to meet several Heads of state in Africa, special representatives from the European Union, the United Nations and Arab world on the sidelines of the summit.
