South Sudan to join CAF by Feb 2012

Republic of South Sudan will soon join the Confederation of African Football. Deputy Chairperson of the South Sudan Football Association Captain Duop Pouch Joak announced that South Sudan will join the CAF, which is the association governing football on the African continent by February 2012.
Captain Joak met with the minister for Information and Broadcasting Barnaba Marial Benjamin Saturday. He urged the minister to consider sports seriously as a source of revenue to the country. During the meeting, Captain Joak said that the government should also consider sports along with petroleum as a good source of income. He said that football can generate immense income besides uniting the nation. The Republic of South Sudan has immense potential and experience to participate in international competitions, he said. He urged the government to take steps to build sporting facilities and stadium in the country which enables it to participate in international sporting events organized by FIFA etc.
Acknowledging the fact that budget for sports in Europe is bigger than in Africa, Barnaba Marial said that government would take steps to support sports in the country.
