The Armed Forces of the Republic of South Sudan is constituted at Part 10, Chapter 1 of the South Sudanese constitution.

The South Sudan Armed Forces primarily consists of the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA). The SPLA is also called Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM). The SPLA is the military / armed wing of the SPLM and is in the process of becoming a regular army. SPLM is in the process of becoming a political party.

Members of Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA) attacks worshipers who were celebrating Christmas Eve in Pigi county. SPLA spokesperson Philip Aguer called the killings unfortunate and said that a thorough investigation would be carried out. Four civilians and one soldier were killed in the attack, while 15 others were injured.
