US to grant $440 million aid to South Sudan during 2012

United States of America is likely to grant an aid of $440 million to South Sudan during the fiscal year 2012. This announcement was made by US Ambassador to South Sudan, Ms Susan Page commemorating July 4, the American Independence Day. The funds would be spent in the areas of development and humanitarian programs and will be for direct benefit for the citizens of South Sudan.
Speaking at the function, Ms. Page said that the US will help the country on issues of good governance and conflict mitigation.
The Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Dr Barnaba Marial Benjamin who was at the function, assured the US that South Sudan is committed to good and democratic governance. He reminded that anti corruption commission is now given the power to arrest and prosecution.
