- February 22, 2014: UNHCR said that about 18,000 South Sudanese refugees have entered Kenya over the past nine weeks. Refugees are entering Kenya in small groups, not in droves. The UNHCR said it is in talks with the Kenya government to allocate it more land to open new camps. The refugees are moving out of the South Sudan because of the conflict that erupted in December 2013 between the President Salva Kiir Mayardit accused sacked vice president Riek Machar.
