Vice President addresses meeting of stakeholders at launch of HIV/AIDS strategic framework

Vice President of South Sudan Dr. Riek Machar Teny addressed a meeting of stakeholders at a three day workshop on the launch of HIV/AIDS strategic framework. Addressing the meeting, he said that the Republic of South Sudan is capable of winning the war against HIV and AIDS. The meeting is organized by South Sudan HIV and AIDS Commission in conjunction with Ministry of Health and development partners at New Sudan Hotel in Juba.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Machar Teny said that the purpose of the conference was to compare notes at all levels from local, national, regional as well as international and to bring the best approach to deal with this global epidemic. He said that experiences need to be shared on what strategies have worked and what has not to avoid mistakes in efforts to prevent HIV and AIDS.
The government has allocated 35 million South Sudanese Pounds (SSP) in its 2010-11 budget to the HIV AIDS Commission. “We call on all leaders including religious leaders to include HIV and AIDS messages in their work”, the Vice President said. The workshop is being attended by over 200 participants including HIV and AIDS activists; politicians; community, religious and opinion leaders; from within and outside the Republic of South Sudan.
